Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use a local agent when I can get a quote online?

A one-size-fits-all insurance policy from an online provider may not provide the complete coverage you need.

As a local agency, we want to cater to your unique needs. We want to meet with you face to face, explain your coverage and answer all of your questions.

We know you will make changes to your home, or buy a new car, and we want to be on the other end of the phone when you call to update your policy once or thirteen times throughout the year.

Is the state minimum required for auto insurance all I need?

In Texas the current state minimum is 30/60/25.

With this coverage, in the event of an accident that is your fault, coverage would be $30,000 for each injured person $60,000 total for an accident, and $25,000 for property damage per accident.

The state minimum may not be enough to cover all vehicles and passengers involved. Consider the high cost of vehicles and medical bills as well as the chance that you might be sued.

  • Collision - Coverage provided when the insured vehicle collides with another vehicle or object.

  • Comprehensive coverage (physical damage other than collision) - Pays for damage to or loss of your automobile from causes other than accidents. These include hail, vandalism, flood, fire, and theft.

  • Deductible – The amount the insured (you, the customer) must pay in a loss (accident, fire, etc.) before any payment is due from the insurance company. These can be selected by the insured. A lower deductible will usually have a higher premium (the price you pay for your insurance policy.)

  • Depreciation – Decrease in the value of property over time due to age, use or wear and tear.

  • Insured – The person or organization covered by an insurance policy.

  • Insurer – The insurance company.

  • Auto Liability insurance – An auto insurance coverage that pays for injuries to the other party and damages to the other vehicle resulting from an accident the policyholder caused. It also pays if the accident was caused by someone covered by the policyholder's policy, including a driver operating the car with their permission.

  • Premium – The amount paid by an insured to an insurance company to obtain or maintain an insurance policy

  • Replacement cost – Insurance coverage that pays the dollar amount needed to replace the structure or damaged personal property without deducting for depreciation but limited by the policy's maximum dollar amount. In short, in the event of a covered loss, the insured is only responsible to pay the amount set as the deductible.

  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage – Auto insurance coverage that pays for the policyholder's injuries and property damage caused by a hit-and-run driver or a motorist without liability insurance. It will also pay when medical and car repair bills are higher than the other driver's liability coverage.

  • Personal Injury Protection – Coverage designed to protect the insured, and those riding with them, from automobile related injury.
